Father Jonathan Hemelt:
I was blessed to attend an ACTS Retreat with the men from St. Catherine of Siena Parish in July of 2025. My main reason for attending this retreat was to prepare for bringing ACTS to St. Pius X. I wasn't really expecting much for myself. As a priest, and before that a seminarian, and before that one who was very active in youth ministry, I’ve been on more retreats than I can count. I figured this would be just like many of the other retreats I had attended or put on. But the Lord is a God of surprises!
This was one of the most powerful retreats I have experienced because it was such an intense outpouring of love and mercy and goodness from the Lord our God. No matter whether men considered themselves close to the Lord or far away, the Lord came to us all with the power of His love and His forgiveness. For me the Lord spoke an important word: “SURRENDER.” The Lord Jesus called me to surrender myself to Him in every way – as a pastor, as a priest, as a Christian, and as a man. The Lord asked me to place my life and my ministry in His hands and trust in Him.
ACTS created the opening for 60 men to share our hearts not only with the Lord Jesus, but also with each other. Walking together as men of faith was a true joy. It was amazing to experience so many other men – both participants and team members – who were all open to the movement of the Lord in their lives.
I am blessed and thankful to St. Catherin of Siena and Fr. Tim for the opportunity to attend the ACTS Retreat and for their gracious offer to mission us in bringing ACTS to St. Pius X. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for our family of faith!
